Perkaitan bahasa Melayu dan bahasa Iban: satu tinjauan ringkas
Abstract
The Malay and Iban languages belong to the Austronesian stock. Therefore they came from the same parent, that is the proto Malay Iban parent language. Research shows that Malay and Iban shared many characteristics in common as opposed to other languages from the Austronesian stock. The relation between Malay and Iban are observed through the phonological, grammar and lexical aspects. The study shows that grammar and lexical units have over time maintained certain linguistic elements and lost others. Besides that, the lexicostatistics and glottochronology method was used to observe the level of relationship and determine the cognates features by using 100 words from Swadesh s lists.
