Abstract

Recently, there is a shifting of term of address in Indonesian language since the last 10-15 years. It is due to the shifting of opinion in estimating human relationships. There is a vertical shifting-between person whose social status and occupations are different due to the increasing of human right awareness and the decreasing of discrimination throughout the world. There is a non-formal term of address in the horizontal shifting, those who have equal social status and occupation, especially among the youth. It is obvious that the usage of Dutch term of address shows a decreasing tendency, except in the ingroupness usage. Meanwhile, English term of address does not appear in the Indonesian language.
