Abstrak

The aim of this paper is to describe the morphological process involved in the formation of complex affixes with ke-...- an in Malay. The study made use of secondary data extracted from UKM-DBP corpus database containing five million words. The data were generated using Wordsmith Tools 4.0 and are displayed in rows of concordances. Derived words with complex affixes are classified into groups based on the types of affixes that occurred with ke-...-an. The data are analysed and described within the framework of lexical morphology. The study shows that word formation rules involved in deriving complex affixes with ke-...-an operate on two different strata. The study also shows that the language has two types of affix clusters, namely prefix clusters and suffix clusters.
