Syarak Mengata Adat Memakai: Review Of The Malay Customs Of Perlis From The Perspective Of 'Urf

(Syarak Mengata Adat Memakai: Tinjauan terhadap Adat Warisan Melayu Perlis dari Perspektif Akidah dan Teori 'Uruf Syarak)

Abstract

Malay community in Perlis is enrich with heritage that includes all the customs in their lives from birth till their death. In general, customs practiced by the Malays of Perlis can be categorized into two, which is customs that are not in conflict with the teaching of Islam and the heritage of customs that is confrant to the teaching of Islam. This study will attempt to examine these two categories with the aim of identifying heritage that can be fitted and the customs that must be abandoned because of the contradiction regarding the Islamic laws and spirit of Islam. In other words, this review will try to figure out the customs with the theory of uruf syara' and its laws. This study will also focus on whether the inherited customs can be categorized as 'uruf by usul fiqh scholar and whether the customs is valid or not in the Islamic teaching.
